Shivratri Kab hai: Shivratri Date 2020, Why Shivratri Is Celebrated?

Maha Shivaratri is one of the most prominent Hindu festivals in India.  It is a festival of worship of Lord Shiva and his consort Mata Parvati.
This festival is celebrated all over India, Nepal, Bangladesh and all the parts of the world where Hindu population is more.

The festival falls in February or March according to the Gregorian calendar.  According to the Hindu calendar, it falls on the 14th day of Phalgun month and the 13th night, which is believed to be the "favorite day of the year" of Lord Shiva.  Maha Shivaratri is considered the most sacred of the twelve Shivaratri celebrations celebrated during the Hindu year.

"Shivratri" means "the great night of Lord Shiva," on the 13th day of Phalgun, Jagran is kept for the entire night by all the devotees of Lord Shiva.  This is different from most Hindu festivals, which are celebrated during the day.  The worship and worship of Lord Shiva at night is celebrated to commemorate the day when Lord Shiva "saved the world from destruction," which is characterized by darkness.

On the 14th of Phalgun, Hindus observe fast for the whole day.  They also offer flowers, belpatras, and fruits to Lord Shiva.  They light lamps, incense sticks, take holy baths in the Ganges and other holy rivers, do yoga meditation, and chant the "Om Namah Shivaya" mantra throughout the day.  On this day, entire temples of Bharatvarsha echo with the shouts of "Hara Har Mahadev!"  At the same time, they play the bells of the temple and, after this, circle the Shivling, bathe it with water or milk.  Finally, they put three lines of "holy ash" on their foreheads as a symbol of purity, wisdom and atonement.

Local people and tourists in India can be involved in any of the following activities during Maha Shivaratri:

Maha Shivratri Celebration Go to festivals and fairs around Hindu temples all over India.  The temples will be filled with lamps, flowers and other decorations, and many tourists attend.  The event in Mandi city of North India is probably the largest, with 81 temples.  In Central India, the Mahakaleshwar Temple is one of the most famous darshan shrines of Lord Shiva for the celebration of Maha Shivaratri.  In South India, events near the Vishwanath Temple in Karnataka are the most important.

If you wish, you can learn about some stories related to Maha Shivaratra.  For example, according to a legend, Shivaji himself drank it in order to save the world when a pot of poison came out during the churning of the ocean, but he did not swallow it.  However, because of this his throat turned blue.  According to another legend, once a man went to pick woods in the forest and he got there at night.  He climbed the tree to stay safe, and to stay awake (and to avoid falling from the tree), he broke the leaves of the tree one by one, taking the name of Lord Shiva.  Incidentally, there was a Shiva lingam under the tree, and since Shivji loved this experience, presently Lord Shiva is chanted at night and he is offered Belpatras.

Maha Shivratri is associated with the arrival of spring in India and especially the blooming of flowers.  Therefore, you can visit the Lalbagh Botanical Garden in Bangalore and its famous flowering plants and "House of Glass".  There is also a lake and a tropical bird sanctuary.  Another option may also be the National Park of the Valley of Flowers in the state of the Western Himalayas.  This mountain is completely covered with alpine flowers.

Although Maha Shivaratri is a religious festival of Hindus and focuses on Hindu temples, it also has lively and interesting cultural activities that tourists can visit.

Shivaratri Festival From Astrological Point Of View

Shivratri Festival The Lord of Chaturdashi Tithi is Lord Bholenath i.e. Shiva himself.  Therefore, Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha of every month is celebrated as monthly Shivaratri.  In astrology, this date is described as very auspicious.  According to the estimation of Mathematical astrology, at the time of Maha Shivaratri, the sun has passed Uttarayan and the season-change is also going on.  According to astrology, on the Chaturdashi date, the moon falls into its weak state.  Shiva is holding the moon on his forehead - hence, worshiping Shiva leads to the lunar strength of the person, which is a factor of the mind.  In other words, the worship of Shiva strengthens the will power and instills indomitable courage and perseverance in the conscience.

 Legend of Mahashivaratri

Shivratri There are many stories about Shivratri.  It is found that Bhagwati Parvati had done austerities to get Shiva as her husband.  According to mythology, this resulted in the marriage of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati to Falgun Krishna Chaturdashi.  This is the reason why Mahashivaratri is considered very important and sacred.

On the other hand, Garuda Purana tells another story about the importance of this day, according to which a Nishadraj went hunting with his dog on this day, but he did not find any victim.  Tired of hunger and thirst, he went to the bank of a pond, where there was Shivling under the Bilva tree.  To give rest to his body he broke some bilva-patras, which also fell on the Shivling.  To clean his feet he sprinkled pond water on them, some drops of which also fell on the Shivling.  While doing so, one of his arrows fell down;  To lift it, he bowed down in front of Shiva Linga.  In this way, he inadvertently completed the entire process of Shiva-worship on Shivratri day.  When the Yamdoots came to pick him up after death, Shiva's people protected him and drove him away.

Shivratri: Monthly Shivaratri of Magh month is today.  On this day, fasting is followed by fasting.  Like Mahashivratri, monthly Shivaratri also has the importance of worshiping Shiva at night.

Shivratri: Monthly Shivaratri fast of Magh month is today.  It is done on Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of every month.  Therefore it is also called Shiva Chaturdashi.
